Politics of Change

A "movement" is when the imaginations of the masses is captured and directed toward the task of creating some sort of social change. John Wesley started a movement within the Anglican Church that changed things. In my lifetime there have been various movements that have addressed the civil rights of different groups of American citizens.

There is a new political movement growing in our country, as we wind our way through the presidential nomination process. It has captured the imagination of many young, old, black, white, brown, rich, poor and formerly disinterested Americans. Many people who have felt marginalized (or even oppressed) by the system of politics that elects our countries leaders are now sensing a wave of hope washing over the land. Where there is hope, there can be freedom to dream and eventually comes faith. Afterall, faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen.

Whether the messenger is John Wesley, Martin Luther King, Jr., John F. Kennedy, Barak Obama or even Jesus Christ, the power to change happens when enough people stand up and say, "Yes, We Can!"
